How to block the Microsoft Store in Windows 11 using Windows Registry

If you want to block access to the Microsoft Store for any reason, this article for Windows 11 tells you how to do that.

The Microsoft Store is part of Windows 11 by default. Therefore, any user in Windows 11 can access the Microsoft Store and download and install apps from it on their PC.

I can imagine that for businesses or schools, it is not necessary to access the Microsoft Store.

Disabling or blocking the Microsoft Store is then the way to prevent PC users from accessing the Store.

The simplest way to block access to the Windows Store is to make an adjustment in the Windows registry.

Note that this only works on Enterprise and Education versions of Windows 11

How to block the Microsoft Store in Windows 11 using Windows Registry

Open the Windows registry app. Right-click on the Start button, click on Run. In the run-box type: regedit.exe

Open Windows registry

Navigate to the following key on the left side:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\

Right-click on the “Microsoft” key and click on New and then Key. Give this key the following name “WindowsStore”.

Next, right-click on “WindowsStore” and click on New and then “DWORD 32-bit value”. Give this new DWORD 32-bit value the following name “RemoveWindowsStore”.

Change the “RemoveWindowsStore” value to either “1” to block access to the Microsoft Store, or “0” to allow access to the Microsoft Store.

Below you can see the end result.

To apply the changes to the Windows 11 registry, restart your PC.

Remove the Microsoft Store for specific user

You can also remove the Microsoft Store for a specific user. Right-click on the Start button, click on “Windows Terminal (admin)”.

In the Terminal windows, copy and paste, make sure to modify username first!

Get-AppxPackage -Name "Microsoft.WindowsStore" -user "username" | Remove-AppxPackage

I hope this has helped you to block access to the Microsoft Store using the Windows registry on Windows 11 education or enterprise.
