Generally, the system product name is the model name of your computer. If you buy a laptop or Surface from a manufacturer, you will see their company name as the product name. An OEM “Original equipment manufacturer” will usually specify the system product name, and usually, you cannot change the system product name.
If you build a custom assembled PC, there is usually no system product name. By default, OEM will automatically assign the default product name. However, if you want, you can change this product name. In this article, you will read how to change the system product name in Windows.
How to Change OEM model name in Windows 10 or Windows 11
An adjustment needs to be made in the Windows registry to change the OEM model name. I recommend that you create a restore point before proceeding with the modification.
Open the Windows registry. Right-click the Start button, and click Run. In the Run box type: regedit.exe. In the Windows register using the left side, go to the following key:
Double-click on the “Model” string value and enter a new model name.
If the string value “Model” does not exist, right-click on free space on the right. Then, click on New and then on string value in the menu. Name this value “Model” and enter a new OEM model name.
You will immediately see the new OEM model name in the system view of your computer.
