In Microsoft Defender Antivirus, also called (“Windows security”), there is a feature called “Periodic scanning”.
Periodic scanning with Windows defender antivirus is a feature that is only available if a third-party antivirus software package is already installed and active on the computer.
The installed antivirus package replaces Windows defender antivirus and disables Windows. However, there is the periodic scan function to still scan with Windows Defender antivirus. The periodic scan performs another scan with only Windows defender antivirus in addition to the already existing antivirus scan. This way, you can detect malware or viruses on your computer that may have been missed by either of these two antiviruses.
If you enable the periodic scan feature, Windows defender antivirus remains disabled. It only performs a scan at the time the computer capacity allows. Thus, no duplicate virus scan is completed.
