In Windows 11, you can set how to use the device, such as a PC, laptop, or Surface tablet. By changing the device usage, you will receive personalized tips and recommendations and see ads from Microsoft related to the device usage you set.
There are different suggestions per device usage setting that Microsoft provides. For example, recommendations, tips, and ads for gaming, family, creativity, school, entertainment, and business.
Each selected device usage setting brings new recommendations, tips, or ads. For example, you might see an ad in the form of a notification or see a new recommendation in the Start menu.
To receive no recommendations, tips, or ads from any of the different device usage settings, turn them all off. Here’s how it works.
How to Change Device Usage settings in Windows 11
Right-click the Start button and click Settings in the menu. On the left menu, click “personalization” and then, at the very bottom, click “Device Usage”.
Select all the ways you plan to use your device to receive personalized tips, ads, and recommendations within Microsoft experiences.
There are 6 different ways you can start using your device. These are “Gaming”, “Family”, “Creativity”, “School”, Entertainment” and “Business”. To receive recommendations for a category change the setting to “On”. To not receive recommendations change everything to “Off”.
