This is How to Find RAM type in Windows 10 or Windows 11

RAM memory is part of every PC. RAM memory helps the computer store volatile information in memory. Therefore, it does not have to be read from the hard drive. In fact, reading information from a hard drive is always slower than from RAM memory.

Some Windows 11 or Windows 10 users still experience that their computer is slow and want to add RAM memory to the physical computer hardware. However, adding RAM memory requires one to know what type of RAM memory is in the computer.

There are different types of RAM memory. The most common RAM type at the moment is DRAM. DRAM stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory. It is a type of RAM that allows each bit of data to be stored in a separate capacitor within a specific integrated circuit. Dynamic RAM is a standard computer memory of many modern desktop computers.

Of the DRAM type, there are still the most common sub-types such as DDR (Double Data Rate), DDR2, DDR3, and DDR4 RAM memory. Therefore, if you are looking for the type of RAM memory, you are most likely looking for the type of DDR RAM memory.

How to find RAM memory type in Windows via CPU-Z

In Task Manager, you will not see the type of RAM memory in your PC as hardware. For this, you need third-party software that can display this information. This is the CPU-Z software.

Download CPU-Z

Open the CPU-Z app and click on the tab “Memory”. In the “type” field, you can see the type of RAM memory in your computer. You will also see here in “Size” the total number of GB of RAM memory available.
