How to manage Windows Security notifications in Windows 11?

If you are using Windows 11 and have not set up an alternative antivirus, you are using Windows security. Windows security is a set of security features built into Windows by default.

Windows security includes the following security features to protect Windows. This is an antivirus, account protection, firewall, app and browser management, and device protection. Each protection also contains sub-functions.

Suppose changes occur or a threat is detected in Windows. In that case, Windows security sends a notification to the logged-on user. This is a notification in the lower right corner in Windows 11 or Windows 10. These notifications end up in the action center, where you can read them back.

You can choose to enable or disable informative notifications per security feature. To immediately disable all notifications per security feature, click on “Receive informative notifications” and change the feature to “Off”. You will no longer receive notifications about this security feature.

You can also manage per type of security feature activity whether you want to receive notifications from it or not. You then change the “Get informational notifications” to “On” and can then select the next notification that you do want to receive. These are for virus and threat protection, the following notifications.

  • Files or activities are blocked.

How to Manage Account Security Notifications?

In addition to notifications from the virus protection in Windows, notifications from other security features are also shown to users. These are the account security and firewall, and network security notifications.

To disable all account security notifications, change the “Get account protection notifications” option to “Off”. If you set the account security notification to “On” you can specify whether you want to receive a notification at the next activity.

If the Windows firewall blocks an app on a specific network profile, you will see a notification of this. You can indicate in the “Notify me when Microsoft Defender Firewall blocks a new app” whether you want to receive these notifications or not. If you do want to receive notifications for a specific firewall profile, you can configure for which firewall profile you want to receive a notification.
