How to fix “Some features may not be available. Something went wrong” error

Some Windows 10 users get an error message when starting Windows or launching the Microsoft Edge browser. This is the “Some features may not be available. Something went wrong” error message.

This “Some features may not be available. Something went wrong” error message is related to the active profile in the Edge browser.

Some features may not be available. Something went wrong

Somewhere something goes wrong in the browser profile. Because the Microsoft Edge processes are also pre-started when loading Windows, you may also see this error message at startup.

As I mentioned, some users do not see the error message until the Edge browser is started.

Some features may not be available. Something has gone wrong

The solution to this “Some features may not be available. Something went wrong” message in Microsoft Edge is to create a new browser profile.

As far as I know, there is no solution available to fix this problem. Microsoft’s support website is also raining complaints about this error message, but there is no immediate solution from Microsoft either.

So I created my own solution. To solve the error message, you need to create a new profile and either not use or delete the old profile in Microsoft Edge.

You can synchronize your browser data by re-syncing your Microsoft account data to the Edge browser in the new profile.

Open the Microsoft Edge browser. Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner and click “Add Profile”.

Add profile to edge browser

Confirm by clicking the “Add” button.

Optionally, log into the new profile to sync data.

Sign in to sync data in Microsoft Edge browser

Then click on the “Profile” icon again in the upper right corner and click “Manage Profile Settings”.

Manage profile settings

At the bottom, under “more profiles”, click the “Switch” button to switch to the old/faulty profile.

Switch profile

A new window will open in the old profile settings. First, make sure you have selected the old profile. You can check this by checking the “Profile Name”.

The old profile name is usually “Profile 1” and the new “Profile 2”. Then click on the three horizontal dots to open the menu and click on “remove” in the menu. You have now removed the old profile from the Edge browser.

remove old profile in edge browser

You will see the message “Remove this profile?” This will permanently remove the browsing data, such as favorites, history, and passwords, from this device.

Click “Remove Profile” if you understand and agree to this. I will not discuss exporting or backing up this browsing data in this article.

Remove profile

Next, close the Microsoft Edge browser.

The error message “Some features may not be available. Something went wrong” is now gone.

I hope this has helped you. Thanks for reading!
